St. Thomas Syro Malabar Cathedral of Chicago School of Religious Education is looking for dedicated CCD teachers to volunteer and teach our children preschool to 12th grade classes for the school year 2018-2019. They must be at least 18 years of age and be confirmed. The ideal teachers will be a practicing catholic and have a good standing in the church. They must participate regularly in Sunday Mass and participate as fully as possible in a sacramental life style and adhere to the Catholic Church’s teachings on morality and behavior. They must complete Diocesan requirements for catechist including: completing online diocese volunteer application and completing online criminal background check and safe environment program. They should continue their own faith formation through participation in seminars, courses, retreats, Bible studies or other avenues. They should be willing to work as a team with the DRE, co-catechists, other members of the religious education team, clergy and parents.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Be prepared with a lesson plan and prompt for CCD Class at 9:30 and Mass at 11:00 AM

Teach curriculum of the parish using the prescribed catechetical text as the primary resource

Attend all Staff meetings on Sundays and Teacher Training Programs

To secure a substitute and notify DRE if the teacher cannot be present for any reason

Maintain presence before & after classes to support, assist, communicate with other catechists and parents

Do Midterm and Final exams and communicate to parents with progress report twice a year
