Fr. Melvin Mangalath Paul

Fr. Melvin Mangalath Paul was born in India (Kerala, Kottayam) and raised in Ellicott City, MD, part of the Baltimore metropolitan area. During the end of his junior year at the University of Baltimore before completing his Bachelors in Accounting, he joined the seminary in 2013 to continue his studies at St.Joseph College Seminary at Loyola University Chicago where he obtained his Bachelors in Philosophy in 2015. After his philosophy studies, he took a year of regency for a prayer and pastoral exposure, to solidify his call to priesthood. He was then sent to Rome where he underwent seminary formation at Collegio Internazionale Sedes Sapientiae. He obtained his Bachelors in Theology from Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome in 2019. After completing his theological studies, he was sent to Kerala, India where he spent six months St. Joseph Pontifical Seminary, Aluva to focus on SyroMalabar related topics. During this time, he served as a deacon at Jerusalem Retreat Center, assisting with retreats, sharing my testimony and with certain pastoral needs of the center.

Fr. Melvin returned to the United States in 2019 and continued his deacon ministry at his home parish due to the pandemic. On May 16th, 2020, he was ordained to the priesthood for the St. Thomas SyroMalabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath at Mar Thoma Sheela Cathedral Church in Chicago, IL. On July 18th 2020, Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed him as Assistant Pastor of the St. Thomas SyroMalabar Cathedral in Chicago as his first appointment.
