Seniors Forum
Senior Forum is a friendly community of seasoned members ages 60 and above belonging to the Mar Thoma Shleeha Catholic Cathedral Parish.
MISSION
- To share life lessons between and among the different layers of Syro Malabar Catholic (SMC) generations living in the US & Canada.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES
- To add Value and inculcate a virtue system in all SMC generations.
- To impart true Christian spirit and philosophy to all SMC generations.
- To promote Health, Happiness, and Holy Life of senior parishioners.
All programs and activities are focused on Senior Forum’s purposes and goals. These programs and activities are designed to address the unique and constantly evolving challenges older adults face in daily life and to offer them a healthy, happy, and enjoyable lifestyle.
Executive Council: Conducted monthly meetings to present and review proposals for Seniors Forum activities, brain-storm, discuss, organize, & implement plans.

General Body:
Convened monthly.
Suggestions and proposals were welcomed.
Breakfast served during Meetings.
Members presented entertainment programs.
Reach Out Programs:
Senior Forum members visited sick and hospitalized parishioners. Members also visited and spent time with parishioners who were unable to come to church and/or participate in our social activities & programs due to physical or medical reasons.
Seniors – Reloaded
Active participation in parish’s social and cultural activities including annual perunnal celebrations.
Synergized Efforts
Members engaged or participated in initiatives and allied activities for the common good of the church and parishioners with other organizations of the parish.
Out of the Treasure Chest
Members are encouraged to set aside a portion of their wealth/estate to benefit the Church and its charitable works.
Reconnect – A fellowship and open-ended dialogue among:

Birthdays & Wedding Anniversaries:
Congratulated birthday and wedding anniversary celebrants. Presented gifts during milestone birthdays and wedding anniversaries.
In Memoriam:
Seniors Forum members visited bereaved families and shared their grief and joined them in prayers. Also, we presented memorabilia to the family as an expression of our shared sorrow and to commemorate the life of their dear departed ones.

- Guest Speaker Session: Honorable Justice Kurian Joseph
- Benefit Plans for Seniors, Seminar: Discussed various state sponsored benefit plans available to seniors. Medicare /Medicaid Updates/Eligibility , Saving programs for children’s collegiate education
- Estate Planning Seminar
- Health Awareness: Handouts & brochures distributed with information on how to maintain and stay healthy.
- Educational Materials: Handouts & brochures distributed with information for the well-being of Seniors
- Fire & Emergency Safety Seminar & Demonstration – by Bellwood Fire Department
- Medicare Made Easy – Seminar – 10/21/2018
- Indian Independence Day Celebration – Flag hoisting
Entertainment:
Outing & Lunch: Seniors trip to Cantigny Park, Wheaton and lunch
Movie Day & Lunch – Screened the movie: His Highness Abdullah – and served lunch
Christmas Breakfast – Served for Breakfast for Senior Forum members in celebration of Christmas.
Noah’s Ark Encounter & Creation Museum – 2 day trip 110 participated
3-in-1 River Cruise & Pleasure trip to Dixon Illinois –100 people participated

Days with our Grand Parents – Book let – 27 participated
Botanical Garden Trip – planned for Augut, 2018 – but cancelled in expression of our support for the families devastated by the flood in Kerala.
